Survivor care services to children & teens
freed from Human trafficking
who do you see?
Human traffickers do not see the humanity of the young or teen girl they target and then hold her captive for weeks, months, or even years. They only see a commodity that can be sold repeatedly until she cannot meet their unrelenting demands.
The Queen’s Corner’s staff, board members, and supporters instead see her as a precious princess deserving to be treated with dignity, respect, love, and protection. We envision her growing up blessed, filled with joy and laughter, enjoying the best possible health and peace.
From time to time we also catch a glimpse of the young woman she could become, one who can live confidently, create memories, dream, and thrive, free to explore and use her gifts and talents, and for whom God has a plan and a purpose for good in her life that none of us can imagine.
life changes after rescue or escape
We partner with law enforcement and other professionals involved in the fight against the human trafficking of minors. Currently, we are preparing our first secure safe space officers can bring both boys and girls under the age of 18 shortly after rescue from human traffickers or following medical treatment for 24 – 48 hours.
They will be greeted by our staff, all trained in providing compassionate care to human trafficking survivors. In conjunction with health professionals, they will make sure each child will have a safe and quiet place, good food, a hot shower, clean new clothes, a warm bed, and have other basic needs met.
The facility also will have the space and tools needed to continue working on the case, including reuniting them with their families or making other arrangements for their care.
Even as we are working on the safe space, we are exploring properties and options to provide short-term emergency shelter (30-90 days) for girls ages 11-17 who can’t safely immediately be reunited with family or for whom placement in foster care is not recommended or possible.
Yes, Human trafficking is an issue in ohio
Human trafficking can occur anywhere. Often the victim can be snatched or lured by traffickers in one region of the US or even in another country and transported to the buyer or accomplice. Social media feeds are filled with many missing children reports, a portion of whom may now be trafficked or are at risk.
Ohio’s northern counties between the urban centers of Cleveland and Toledo is known to be a favorite among the criminals. Its easily accessible network of highways, ports, and airports can facilitate the movement of victims across the US, to Canada, and beyond – if they can evade law enforcement.
As awareness of the trafficking of both minors and adults is increasing nationally, local, state and federal officials, law enforcement agencies, courts, social service providers, adult survivors, faith communities, and ordinary citizens in our region are stepping up their collaborative efforts and pooling and developing resources to combat the scourge of child trafficking.
